One of the most interesting things about having a live product is seeing how people actually find you. Not how you think they’ll find you. How they actually do.
We’ve been live for a little over a week. The sample size is small. But the patterns are already fascinating.
People don’t search for venues. They search for feelings.
Here are real search queries that have led people to Moodap in our first days:
"chill bars near me nyc"
"where to go on a tuesday night manhattan"
"romantic bar west village quiet"
"fun things to do tonight east village"
"group dinner spots not too expensive soho"
"late night vibes lower east side"
"what to do when bored in nyc tonight"
Look at those queries. Not a single one is "Italian restaurant 10003." Not one is a cuisine, a specific restaurant name, or a traditional search. They’re all mood queries. They’re describing a feeling and hoping Google figures it out.
This is exactly the gap Moodap fills.
The traditional SEO approach says: target keywords with high search volume. "Best restaurants NYC" gets 100,000 searches a month. Go after it. But that’s a keyword owned by Yelp, Eater, Time Out, and a dozen other massive platforms. We’re not going to outrank them. And honestly, someone searching "best restaurants NYC" probably isn’t in the mood to use Moodap — they’re in research mode, not decision mode.
The long-tail queries are where we win. "Quiet cocktail bar West Village date night" gets maybe 50 searches a month. But those 50 people are exactly our users. They know what they want. They just need someone to match them.
We’re building content specifically for these long-tail, mood-based searches. Every neighborhood-category combination is a page. Drinks & Nightlife in the East Village. Food in Chelsea. Casual & Social in SoHo. Each one is optimized for the natural language queries people actually type.
The other insight: time-specific searches are huge. "Tonight" appears in a massive percentage of our incoming queries. People aren’t planning next week. They’re searching right now, for right now. The urgency is real.
This validates the entire thesis. The 38-minute problem isn’t theoretical. People are literally typing their mood into Google and hoping for an answer. Right now, they’re getting listicles and generic review pages.
