Best Bars & Restaurants in Manhattan Valley(The Valley)
Chill. Affordable. Neighborhood real.
The UWS's low-key neighbor—diverse eats on Broadway and a neighborhood that still feels like one.
What Makes Manhattan Valley One of the Best Neighborhoods in NYC
“The chillest stretch of the Upper West Side that nobody talks about”
Manhattan Valley is the UWS neighborhood that the UWS doesn't claim and Columbia doesn't reach, which makes it one of the most genuinely relaxed pockets of the island. Broadway and Amsterdam here are lined with family-owned restaurants, old-school diners, and the kind of affordable brunch spots that have been priced out of every neighborhood south of 86th. It's where people live because they actually want to, not because of a brand.
Manhattan Valley, roughly 97th to 110th Street between Central Park West and Amsterdam Avenue, is the part of the Upper West Side that the Upper West Side pretends doesn't exist. Which is exactly why it's great. The dining on Broadway is genuinely diverse—Dominican, Thai, Japanese, Ethiopian—and priced for people who actually live here. The bars are neighborhood bars. Morningside Park and the northern edge of Central Park provide green space. Frederick Douglass Boulevard is slowly picking up new restaurants and cafes. It's residential, unpretentious, and increasingly interesting for food lovers willing to go above 96th Street.
An unhurried Saturday of cheap brunch, park time, and neighborhood-restaurant dinner without a single reservation or a single attitude
Broadway between 96th and 110th has some of the most underrated restaurants in Manhattan.
Manhattan Valley is known for
Local lingo: “We're between UWS proper and Morningside Heights. We have the best of both and the attitude of neither.”

Date night in Manhattan Valley was perfect. Cocktails at a low-key bar, dinner at a place we found on Moodap, and a walk through the neighborhood after. Couldn't have planned it better.
Brought the whole group here for a birthday and we had the best time. Bounced between a few spots — no covers, no dress codes, no attitude. Just a solid night.
I used to overlook Manhattan Valley but it's quickly become one of my favorite neighborhoods. The restaurants punch way above their weight and it's never as crowded as downtown.
