What Makes NoHo One of the Best Neighborhoods in NYC

SoHo's cooler, quieter sibling who got the better apartment

NoHo is the tiniest powerhouse neighborhood in Manhattan — maybe six blocks total — and every single one hits. Bond Street has been a restaurant destination since the 1800s and it still is. Great Jones is right there matching it. The vibe is SoHo without the shopping crowds, the Bowery without the grit, and the Village without the NYU students. It's the perfect pocket of downtown.

NoHo (North of Houston) is tiny—maybe a dozen blocks—but it punches way above its weight. Squeezed between the East Village, SoHo, and Greenwich Village, it has the cobblestones and cast-iron buildings of SoHo without the shopping-mall crowds. Bond Street and Great Jones Street are the main arteries, home to consistently excellent restaurants (Bond St, Il Buco, Great Jones Cafe's legacy). The Bowery runs through, which means access to great bars and music venues. Joe's Pub at the Public Theater is a world-class performance space. It's walkable, beautiful, and the kind of neighborhood where every block has something worth stopping for.
