What Makes Hamilton Heights the Best Neighborhoods in NYC
“Where Harlem's history meets Hamilton's hype”
Hamilton Heights is the kind of neighborhood where you can get a plate of mangú and a pour-over coffee on the same block and neither one feels out of place. The brownstone-lined streets are some of the most beautiful in Harlem, City College's gothic campus is right there, and the Dominican food scene rivals anything in Washington Heights. It's changing, but the foundation is rock solid.
Hamilton Heights sits on one of Manhattan's highest points, named after Alexander Hamilton, whose country estate (the Grange) still stands as a national memorial. The neighborhood stretches roughly from 135th to 155th Street west of St. Nicholas Avenue, and the architecture is jaw-dropping—Romanesque and Renaissance Revival rowhouses line the streets like a living museum. City College's Gothic campus anchors the area. The food scene is growing: West African restaurants, Dominican spots, new cafes and wine bars opening alongside longtime favorites. Sugar Hill borders to the north, Harlem to the east. It's quieter than central Harlem but shares its cultural pride.
Sunday morning Dominican breakfast followed by a long walk through some of the most stunning brownstone blocks in all of Manhattan
City College campus is gorgeous and the Dominican food nearby is undefeated.

Date night in Hamilton Heights was perfect. Cocktails at a low-key bar, dinner at a place we found on Moodap, and a walk through the neighborhood after. Couldn't have planned it better.
Brought the whole group here for a birthday and we had the best time. Bounced between a few spots — no covers, no dress codes, no attitude. Just a solid night.
I used to overlook Hamilton Heights but it's quickly become one of my favorite neighborhoods. The restaurants punch way above their weight and it's never as crowded as downtown.
