What Makes Hudson Yards the Best Neighborhoods in NYC

NYC's newest neighborhood — still figuring out its personality

Hudson Yards is what happens when you build a neighborhood from a PowerPoint presentation. It's shiny, it's expensive, and it has absolutely no idea what it wants to be when it grows up. But the views from Edge are legitimately insane, some of the restaurants are world-class, and the food hall has enough variety to justify the trip. Give it another decade.

Hudson Yards is what happens when you build a neighborhood from scratch on top of a rail yard. Love it or hate it—and New Yorkers have strong opinions—it's undeniably impressive. The Vessel (that giant honeycomb staircase) is the centerpiece. The shopping mall is high-end (Cartier, Dior, Fendi). The restaurant scene is ambitious: José Andrés, Thomas Keller, and David Chang all have spots here. Edge is the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. It's polished to the point of feeling like a mall in Dubai, but the views are pure New York. Best experienced at sunset with a cocktail in hand.

Best For

A big-budget afternoon of skyline views, high-end shopping, and a restaurant meal that'll show up on your credit card statement for months

Insider Tip

Edge observation deck + dinner at the Shops is the tourist move, but the food hall actually slaps.
