We made a decision early on that some people think is crazy: no app.
Not "no app for now." No app. Period. Moodap is a web application. You open it in your browser. On your phone, your laptop, your tablet. You don’t download anything. You don’t create an account. You just go to the site and start.
Here’s why:
Every barrier between a user and the product is a place where people leave. Every single one. App Store download? 50% of people bounce. "Create an account" screen? Another 30%. "Verify your email"? Another 20%. By the time someone actually uses your product, you’ve lost 80% of the people who wanted to try it.
We can’t afford to lose 80% of anyone. Especially not right now.
More importantly: the use case demands zero friction. You’re standing outside a bar that’s too crowded. Your friend texts you a link. You tap it. You’re in the quiz. 25 seconds later, you have a new plan. You did not have time to download an app and create an account. The moment would have passed.
The web is instant. That’s its superpower. Tap a link and you’re there. No gatekeepers. No intermediaries. No waiting for an app store to approve your update. We push a fix and every user has it immediately.
But doesn’t a native app give a better experience?
In 2018, yes. In 2026, the gap is nearly gone. Modern web apps can do almost everything native apps can do. Push notifications. Offline access. Full-screen mode. Home screen icons. Smooth animations. Access to GPS, camera, and sensors.
Moodap works as a Progressive Web App. You can add it to your home screen and it looks and behaves exactly like a native app. But you didn’t have to go through the App Store. You didn’t have to give it your email. You didn’t have to agree to 47 permissions.
There’s a business argument too. The App Store takes 30%. Every subscription, every transaction, Apple takes nearly a third. As a small team, that math is brutal. The web is free. Our users come directly to us.
No signup either.
The quiz doesn’t ask who you are. We don’t need your name, your email, your birthday, your Instagram handle. We need your mood. That’s it. Anonymous, instant, disposable.
Will we add accounts later? Maybe. For saved favorites, for personalized history, for business owners managing their profiles. But using Moodap to find where to go tonight? That should never require an account. Ever.
The best product is the one with nothing between you and the answer.
