Manhattan. Undiscovered. Worth it.

What Makes Roosevelt Island One of the Best Neighborhoods in NYC

“Another Manhattan neighborhood worth exploring”

Every Manhattan neighborhood has its own rhythm. This one just doesn't have a publicist yet.

Roosevelt Island is two miles of calm in the middle of the East River, and the tram ride over is half the appeal—four minutes of Manhattan unfolding beneath you for the price of a subway fare. The island is mostly residential and deliberately quiet: waterfront promenades on both sides, the Cornell Tech campus at the northern end, and Four Freedoms Park at the southern tip, where the skyline opens up across the water. The gothic ruin of the Smallpox Hospital sits between them. Dining is limited and local rather than destination, so come for the walk, the views and the quiet, not for a night out.
