The Blog Nobody Expected

A venue discovery platform has a blog? Yes. Because content is the real SEO play — and these stories need to be told.

MoodapThe Moodap™ Team

When we told a friend we were building a blog for Moodap, he looked at us like we’d lost our minds.

"You’re a venue discovery platform. Why does a quiz need a blog?"

Fair question. Here’s the answer: because Google doesn’t index quizzes.

The Moodap quiz is interactive. It’s JavaScript-driven. The results are dynamic. Google can’t crawl a quiz and extract the kind of content that ranks in search results. The quiz is great for users who already know about us. It does nothing for users who haven’t found us yet.

Content is how they find us.

Every blog post is a new entry point. Someone searching "how to choose a bar in NYC" might land on a post about our matching engine. Someone searching "solo founder startup journey" might land on a post about building alone. Someone searching "best neighborhoods Manhattan nightlife" might land on a post about our 43 neighborhoods.

Each post is a door. The more doors, the more people walk in.

But we refuse to write garbage content. You know the type — "Top 10 Bars in NYC You NEED to Visit (Number 7 Will Shock You)." Listicles stuffed with keywords, written by someone who’s never been to New York. Content farms churning out 500-word articles for SEO bots, not humans.

Every post on this blog is something we’d actually want to read.

The Building Moodap series tells the honest story of creating something from scratch. The technical decisions, the mistakes, the small wins. It’s the kind of content we consumed obsessively when we were thinking about starting this. Real founder stories. Not startup theater.

Future content will go deeper on neighborhoods. Not "here are 10 bars" but "here’s what the East Village actually feels like at 11pm on a Thursday." The kind of local knowledge that only comes from living here.

We’ll write about moods. About the psychology of choosing where to go. About why decision fatigue kills your night before it starts. About the difference between what you think you want and what your mood actually needs.

The blog is also accountability.

Writing publicly about what we’re building forces us to think clearly about it. If we can’t explain a feature in plain language, maybe the feature isn’t as clear as we think. If we can’t articulate why a decision matters, maybe it doesn’t.

Building in public is scary. Every post is a snapshot of where the product is right now — imperfect, incomplete, evolving. But that’s the whole point. This is the journey, documented in real time.

Welcome to the blog nobody expected. We hope it’s useful.
