Insider Tips

The stuff you can’t find on Yelp or Google Maps. The secret menu. The best seat. The bartender who remembers your name.

You know what Yelp can’t tell you?

That the bar on the corner of Houston and Ludlow has a back garden that most people walk right past. That the bartender at the cocktail place in the East Village will make you something off-menu if you just say "surprise me." That the Italian place in the West Village has a 50-year-old Negroni recipe that isn’t on the menu but regulars know about.

This is the stuff that makes New York, New York.

And none of it shows up in reviews. Reviews tell you the food was good. The service was slow. The bathroom was clean. Fine. Useful. But not magic.

Magic is the insider tip. It’s the local knowledge. The thing a friend who’s been going to a place for years tells you before your first visit. "Sit at the bar, not a table." "Go on a Tuesday — the owner’s there and he’ll talk your ear off." "Order the burger but ask for the secret sauce."

From day one, we wanted Moodap to capture this kind of data. Not reviews. Not ratings. Tips.

How we get them:

Right now, it’s a combination of things. Our own knowledge from living in Manhattan our whole lives. Friends and their years of going-out wisdom. Research — digging through old food blogs, bartender interviews, neighborhood histories, and the occasional Reddit thread that’s actually useful.

But the long-term plan is bigger. When business owners claim their profiles on Moodap, they’ll be able to add insider tips directly. The chef who wants you to know about the special that’s only available on Fridays. The bar owner who wants to share the history behind the 100-year-old mirror on the wall. The comedy club manager who knows which seat has the best sightline.

These tips are the moat. Any platform can list venue names and addresses. Any platform can scrape hours and phone numbers. But insider tips? Those require relationships. They require trust. They require someone to actually care enough to share what makes their place special.

A venue profile without insider tips is a listing. A venue profile with insider tips is a recommendation from a friend.

We don’t have tips for every venue yet. Not even close. But the ones we have are real. They’re things you genuinely wouldn’t know unless someone told you.

And that’s the whole point of Moodap. Not just telling you where to go. Telling you what to do when you get there.

If you know something about a venue that nobody else knows, we want to hear it. The secret spots, the hidden menus, the best-kept secrets in all 43 neighborhoods. That’s the data that makes this platform alive.
